Inspired by the great arches of ancient Rome, Napoleon commissioned the Arc de Triomphe shortly after his victory at Austerlitz. Unfortunately, he never lived to see its completion.

At the base of the arch, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier pays tribute to the 1.3 million French soldiers who died in World War I. Behold the eternal flame that is rekindled at 6.30 PM each evening. In addition, there is a must-see exhibition that explains the symbolic importance of this monument.

A must do. The Arc is stunning from the ground but the views from the top are awesome too. Yes it’s a good 250 steps throughout but worth it, there is lift access but only for those with mobility problems. A small ticket price to pay Some good history to be seen and read before the roof alongside a gift shop. There are toilets at the top too!

Very cool experience to be inside of a monument. Make sure to get there early because the line will be long even with advance tickets (though you could get a timed ticket). Excellent historical information and terrific views on the top. Definitely recommend.
