Interesting Eiffel Tower Facts

The Eiffel Tower, known as “La Tour Eiffel” in French, was designed by the engineer Gustave Eiffel and his company, Eiffel et Cie. The tower was constructed as the centrepiece of the 1889 World’s Fair, held in Paris to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution. At its completion in 1889, the Eiffel Tower stood as the tallest man-made structure in the world, with a height of 324 meters (1,063 feet). Including its antennas, it reaches a height of 330 meters (1,083 feet). Now, the “Iron Lady” is one of the most visited monuments in the world, with millions of tourists coming from around the globe to see it each year. Given its immense popularity, visitors are strongly advised to pre-book Eiffel Tower tickets to guarantee entry and avoid disappointment. It offers breathtaking panoramic views of Paris from its observation decks. Visitors can ascend the tower using elevators or climb the stairs. There are three levels accessible to the public. The first and second levels have restaurants, shops, and exhibit spaces, while the summit on the third level doubtlessly provides the city’s best views.

Loved every aspect of it especially our guide Bruno who was bilingual and spoke Spanish to my parents. That was a huge plus and really made our experience exceptional!
Felipe – Costa Rica

Our tour of the Eiffel Tower was fantastic best way to see it as not only do you get to skip the long queues our guide Kenny was so much fun and full of interesting facts highly recommend.

We met up with our tour guide and the other people in our tour group at a souvenir shop about half a mile from the Eiffel Tower. This gave us a chance to get a few souvenirs at a smaller price than the shops inside the Eiffel Tower. As we walked, our tour guide told us about the origin and history of the Eiffel Tower, which was really very interesting. She guided us through security and to the elevators. Once we were on the second floor, we only stayed with the group for a short time before going out to explore on our own. The view is amazing! A trip to Paris would not be complete without a visit to the Eiffel Tower. We purchased the option to go up to the summit, and I feel that it was worth the extra cost. My daughter and I both share this as the highlight of our vacation. Purchasing tickets for the Eiffel Tower and having an English speaking tour guide was the right option for us; it took away any stress about not knowing where to go and what to expect from security.

The location of our tours office was ideally located for the Eiffel Tower. Our guide was friendly and informative. We were in two minds about going to the summit but were so pleased we did as the view was fantastic. The viewing spaces were good and people moved around well. Just allow a wee bit of a wait to come down. It was great that at the end of the tour we still had time to explore the different floor and the grounds at the bottom of the tower. It truly is a remarkable piece of architecture.

Our guide, Mohammed was interactive and fun. My kids (11, 13 and 17) enjoyed the tour as much as I did. I thought we would skip the line in this tour, but we didn’t, that didn’t matter though, as the guide used the time well… And of course’s the whole tower experience was amazing!

Abi was great and explained all Eiffel Tower details perfectly. Thank you Abi!

Kidian – Panama

We had to be at the office 15 minutes earlier. We followed our quide, we skipped the lines and then we went directly to the second floor with the elevator. The maximum persons in the elevator were 52, so we were all together since our group was up to 15 persons. The guide was amazing, he was smiling, he was friendly, he showed us the Paris, he told us about the history and he gave us many information (I think he is from Argentina and he speaks Spanish too) We spent us much time as we want on the tour.
Anonymous – Greece

About the Eiffel Tower

Locally nicknamed “La Dame de Fer” (French for “Iron Lady”), the Eiffel Tower was constructed from 1887 to 1889 as the entrance to the 1889 World’s Fair in Paris and was initially criticised by some of France’s leading artists and intellectuals for its design. Still, it has become a global cultural icon of France and one of the world’s most recognisable and iconic structures. Not only a symbol of France, but the Eiffel Tower in Paris also contains over 100 antennas to broadcast radio and television worldwide.

Every day after sunset, the Eiffel Tower is illuminated by 335 projectors for a spectacular light show. The famous designer Gustave Eiffel included a small apartment for himself at the top of the tower. The Eiffel Tower is an architectural marvel and a symbol of France’s rich history and cultural significance. It remains one of the most visited and recognised landmarks in the world, which is why millions buy tickets to tour the Eiffel tower annually.

From the Eiffel Tower, you will marvel at the ancient façade of the Louvre, the financial district of La Défense, the colourful Centre Pompidou, and the vast white expanse of Sacré-Coeur Basilica.

For the complete Parisian entertainment experience, many visitors also enjoy Crazy horse Paris tickets to witness world-famous artistic performances after their tower visit.

Important Booking and Visitor Information

Expect waiting times during high season at security checkpoints and elevator lines on all floors. Peak periods (June-August, holidays, and weekends) see the longest delays, particularly for summit access. The summit level may close during high winds for safety reasons. When this happens, you’ll still have access to the 1st and 2nd floors, and you may be eligible for a partial refund of the price difference.

Bring your e-ticket (printed or on phone), a valid ID, comfortable shoes, and layers for wind. Bags larger than 40cm x 20cm x 55cm aren’t allowed, and there’s no storage facility available.

Remember that all ticket sales are final under normal circumstances. Only exceptional closures by the tower management qualify for refunds – weather delays, long queues, or personal schedule changes do not qualify for compensation.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far in advance should I book Eiffel Tower tickets?

We recommend booking elevator tickets at least 60 days in advance, especially during peak season (June-August) and holidays. Stairs tickets should be booked 14 days ahead. Popular time slots like sunset can sell out months in advance.

Do I need to pre-book Eiffel Tower tickets?

Yes, absolutely. Pre-booking guarantees entry, saves queuing hours, and often costs less than on-site tickets. It’s the smartest way to secure your visit.

What’s included in my Eiffel Tower ticket?

All tickets include elevator access to your chosen level (2nd floor or summit), security screening, and access to shops and exhibitions. Audio guides and dining are separate bookings.

What’s the difference between 2nd floor and summit tickets?

2nd-floor tickets take you 115 metres up with stunning city views and are perfect for most visitors. Summit tickets include the 2nd floor plus access to the top level at 276 metres for ultimate panoramic views.

How long should I plan for my Eiffel Tower visit?

Allow 1.5 hours minimum for the 1st and 2nd floors, or 2.5 hours minimum if including the summit. This includes security, elevator waits, time to enjoy the views, and shopping.

Is the Eiffel Tower wheelchair accessible?

Yes, the 1st and 2nd floors are fully wheelchair accessible via elevators with priority access and staff assistance. However, the summit level is inaccessible to wheelchair users for safety reasons.

What happens if the weather is bad?

The Eiffel Tower operates in most weather conditions. High winds may close the summit level for safety (when ground winds reach 31 mph). Your ticket remains valid, and you can still access lower levels. When you book Tour Eiffel tickets, your ticket remains valid even during partial closures, and you can still access the lower levels for spectacular views of Paris.

Can I book restaurant reservations at the Eiffel Tower?

Yes! We offer dining packages for Madame Brasserie (1st floor) with lunch and dinner options. These include your Eiffel Tower access plus the restaurant experience.
